Trump Administration ended TPS Despite Warnings from US Cables

May 10, 2018

The Trump administration ended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 300,000 immigrants despite warnings from experts contained in U.S. embassy cables according to Washington Post’s Nick Miroff, Seung Min Kim and Joshua Partlow.

Marleine Bastien, Executive Director of FANM issued the following response to the story:

This article proves that the Trump Administration is pushing its agenda to drive immigrants out of the country. The Washington Post story shows that senior officials in the Trump administration namely, Chief of Staff John Kelly, White House Advisor Stephen Miller, former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, and DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen intentionally overlooked recommendations from American diplomats with deep knowledge of country conditions in order to place immigrants on a path to deportation. Under law, the Trump administration has to analyze Haiti, Honduras and EL Salvador conditions to determine whether to extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to nationals of these countries.

At FANM, we will continue to fight the Trump administration’s efforts to separate working families. We will work to save TPS for all. #SaveTPS
