Take Action for a #TPSDeal and #CleanDreamACT

Action Kit for #TPSDeal and #CleandreamAct

We are calling all TPS recipients and allies to join us in our fight for immigrant families and immigrant rights! We are launching our #TPSdeal campaign to make sure that families from Haiti, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras and others are not split up by racist and inhumane policies! At the moment, TPS holders are excluded from all immigration discussion by both Democrats and Republicans- our questions is why? While we are fighting for a clean Dream Act to protect 800,000 DACA recipients we demand that any deal also include the 300,000 TPS recipients. Any resolution that does not include a deal for all immigrants would be short sighted and unjust.

Combined, there are more than 300 thousand TPS holders from El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras and Nicaragua currently living in the U.S.  These are our classmates, co-workers and neighbors.  They have been living and working in the United States legally for years and have put down roots. Many of them have U.S. citizen children, contribute to the U.S. labor market and economy in order to send remittances to their countries of origin, most of which are still reeling under the impact of gang violence, natural and political disasters.

We have a very short window period to act and we are running out of time, so we need your help now. We have put together this action plan for TPS recipients nationwide and their supporters and allies to follow.

1. Call to Action for TPS Recipients and Families- Raise your Voices!

We are putting out a call to all TPS recipients to raise your voices at this crucial time. Meet with your elected representatives and tell them your stories. Post your stories and pictures on social media! Get in touch with FANM or your local organization for support with organizing at: communications@fanm.org

2. Advocate/Meet with your Representative

Script for your Representative:

As your constituent, I urge you to use your leadership to advocate that any government resolution on immigration must also include the 300,000 people covered by Temporary Protective Status (TPS) from El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras and Nicaragua as well as a Clean Dream Act. Don’t risk breaking up families and deporting people into dangerous conditions. Ending TPS would be bad for US business, bad for taxpayers, and bad for the region.

Script for the U.S. Senate:

I urge you to use your leadership to advocate that any government resolution on immigration must also include the 300,000 people covered by Temporary Protective Status (TPS) from El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras and Nicaragua and others as well as a Clean Dream ACT. Don’t risk breaking up families and deporting people into dangerous conditions. Ending TPS would be bad for US business, bad for taxpayers and bad for the region.

Script for the White House:

President Trump, we ask you to find a permanent solution for TPS holders from El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras and Nicaragua and other as well a clean Dream ACT. TPS recipients have been living and working in the United States legally for years--they are our classmates, co-workers, and neighbors.  Many of them have U.S. citizen children, contribute to the U.S. labor market and economy, and send money to impoverished communities back in their countries of origin.  Ending TPS would be bad for business, bad for the economy, and bad for families. You promised to be Haitians’ Best Champion.  It is time to show it.

3. Advocate on Social Media

Make your voices heard on social media! To make this easier we have prepared a set of Tweets and Instagram/Facebook posts for you to share, as needed.

Tweet (1): We demand a #DACAdeal and #TPSdeal for holders from #Haiti, #El Salvador, #Nicaragua and #Honduras and others in the US who risk deportation into #danger. Advocate for a #SaveTPS #DACAdeal

Tweet (2): The #immigrant #community is tired of supporting members of #congress who do not have the backbone to #standup for us when it matters most. This election cycle,  we will remember!  No #CleandreamACT + NO #TPSdeal  = No Votes !

Tweet (3): Trump’s administration believes that pandering to the Conservative alt-right is more important than keeping families together. Call you representatives, ask for a :  #TPSdeal , #Dacadeal,  #SaveTPS,  #CleanDreamActNOW !

Facebook/Instagram (1): #Hurricane Matthew struck Haiti in October 2016, devastating the entire south. #Haitians are doing their best to #rebuild after years of consecutive environmental and political disasters. But it is a difficult task when communities have lost everything, even the US – the wealthiest nation in the world- takes time to rebuild. Haiti is not ready or able to absorb 58,000 TPS recipients,  including 27,000 US born children.  #CleanDreamACT,  #TPSdealNow !

Facebook/Instagram (2): Listen to what 10 year old Christina has to say about #SaveTPS- If I were you #president #Trump, this time around I would listen to voices like Christina’s and include a #TPSdeal as part of the immigration framework. Do not put appeasing your base over the #rights of #children in America! #SaveTPS,  #DreamActNow !
