FANM Invites Residents To Attend The Grand Opening Of It’s New Community Fridge
MIAMI, FL — Family Action Network Movement (FANM) invites individuals and families to attend the grand opening of its new community fridge on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at 2pm at the FANM office. FANM staff will go over the guidelines for the fridge with members and residents so all are aware how it will operate. Buddy System, a grassroots non-profit founded by Jessica Gutierrez and Kristin Guerin, generously donated the fridge and local Haitian artist Louis Rosemond painted it. Gutierrez and Guerin started their organization to support neighbors throughout Miami-Dade with food assistance in response to COVID-19. The fridge is maintained by a group of dedicated Buddy System volunteers and will be cleaned and restocked once a week.
Marleine Bastien, Executive Director of Family Action Network Movement (FANM), stated, “This community fridge is a blessing and a holiday gift during a year of great struggle and pain. The families FANM serves are in crisis. The COVID pandemic has been especially harsh to those who were already marginalized. Many of our members work in the service industry and have lost their employment. They have to constantly worry about where their next meal is going to come from and how they are going to pay their rent. Despite all, our families are resilient and strong. They are determined to pull through despite their hardships. This partnership is a welcome addition to FANM’s efforts to support them. I wish to thank all the volunteers at Buddy System for providing this fridge to the Little Haiti community!" El personal de FANM repasará las pautas para el refrigerador con los miembros y los residentes para que todos sepan cómo funcionará. Buddy System, una organización sin fines de lucro fundada por Jessica Gutiérrez y Kristin Guerin, donó generosamente el refrigerador y el artista local haitiano Louis Rosemond lo pintó.
